| Speaker Bio: |
Capt. Messer-Bookman is a tenured, full professor at the California Maritime Academy, where she teaches all aspects of navigation. She also teaches for the US Power Squadron and offers navigation seminars at KKMI boatyard. She is a licensed USCG Master (unlimited tonnage-oceans) and has sailed over 300,000 sea miles world-wide, as a merchant marine officer. Her articles have appeared in Pacific Maritime Magazine, Workboat, and Professional Mariner. Her book "The Master's Handbook on Ship's Business" is used as a text at maritime academies nationwide. Her latest book, "Close Quarters: A Woman's Guide to Living and Working in Masculine Environments" is due out in 2010. She and her husband own a 46' cruising ketch. |
