Speaker Bio: Steve Szirom has been sailing since 1978 and holds an active U.S. Coast Guard Masters License. As a boat owner and active crew, his sailing experience covers the coastal and bay waters (San Francisco Bay, Monterey Bay, Puget Sound, San Juan Islands, Gulf Islands, West coast, and Mexico (Baja Ha-Ha class of 2009). He speaks a bit of Hungarian, French and Spanish. Other interests include tennis, cycling, chess, gourmet cooking, film/video production, movies, fitness, Internet, computers, others. He is a business consultant and analyst in the high-tech industry. His manages a sailing website, www.oysteryachting.com, dedicated to blue-water cruising vessels, far-off voyaging destinations and safe passages.
   
Details: The 45-minute HD video follows the 760-mile 2009 Baja Ha-Ha race to the cape (San Diego to Cabo San Lucas). The feature film, depicts the events surrounding the Baja Ha-Ha XVI (Oct. 26-Nov. 8, 2009). The 2009 fleet experienced gale conditions for two days and a rare sinking of a vessel by whales. The film will include tips on how to prepare for the cruise, what works, and what to expect along the way. The video depicts life aboard a 1977 Islander 36, "Freedom Won," on which the author was a crew member. The annual event, founded by Latitude 38 magazine, set a record for the number of boats registered and finishers. There were 165 boats and 601 sailors - both records - that crossed the starting line.
