What:

Strictly Sail Pacific, the West Coast’s largest sailing show, announces Thursday, April 14th as America's Cup Day. The America’s Cup, sailing’s most iconic event, has been rejuvenated by a host of innovative changes intended to re-energize the competition for 2013 and into the future. The public is invited to view the America's Cup trophy during the day, and attend a special “Vision Presentation” in the evening with a panel of speakers representing the America's Cup Event Authority, America's Cup Race Management, the America’s Cup Organizing Committee of San Francisco and ORACLE Racing.

Why:

The world's attention will be focused on the San Francisco Bay come 2013 for the America's Cup. The event promise of bringing the world of sailing to all will be fulfilled through the introduction of exciting, high-performance, wing-sailed catamarans that will demand the best from the sailors, challenging their athleticism as never before. And for the first time in America’s Cup history, the action will be brought directly to the spectator, through onboard cameramen, enhanced broadcasting and a robust social media offering.
Sailing enthusiasts and those interested in the world’s top sporting events will have a chance to witness history as the oldest trophy in sports will be on display at Strictly Sail Pacific.
The evening America's Cup Vision presentation will be open to show exhibitors and attendees. The presentation will focus on the changes to the 34th America’s Cup and how it will connect millions of fans worldwide to the sport of sailing and showcase San Francisco on the world stage as a top international sporting destination. The discussion will focus on:

  • San Francisco as the host city – how the AC34 will impact the City and the surrounding Bay Area.
  • The Event - how the City and its natural amphitheatre will provide an unparalleled America’s Cup event setting, both in person, on television, and through digital media.
  • The show on the water – from umpiring to race courses to rules, hear about the enhancements being made to AC34 to excite whole new audiences, as well as capture the attention of diehard sailing fans.
  • The boats – the vision behind the AC45 and looking into the future of the AC72
